Chaos at Howe Community Park Injures Multiple Gunshot Victims in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are examining a shooting that took place on the evening of April 18 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time deputies were shutting down a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.

Background

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to Howe Park at about 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Following that, a second call came in mentioning a possible fight breaking out within the park grounds.

Air support was sent to survey the area but Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 came back with no confirmation of a fight. However, deputies found that an enormous crowd had assembled at the park without permission.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Responding units worked to disperse the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers directing attendees to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were discharged. The sudden gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Responding personnel immediately began finding those who had been shot.

The Shooting Victims

Altogether, four people were identified as having gunshot wounds. The four individuals — including a female and three males all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were brought to area medical facilities. Hospital staff stated that two victims were in serious condition, one sustained moderate wounds, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, all four were in stable condition.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also responded and helped care for the four victims on location.

Evidence at the Scene

The main crime scene seemed to have taken place near the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Investigators discovered extra shell casings on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were noted in the wrought iron fence near the nearby Home Depot. This evidence pointed to that one of the gunmen had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was put under lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location throughout the night.

Arrests Made

Information relayed through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a Kia vehicle had been stopped in the Solano County area. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were traveling to Solano County to transport the detainees for formal questioning. Video evidence showed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
